EMPTY FOR A FEW DAYS
after last post i threw away $3500 on $10/$20. had £200 left. built it back to £1100+ before throwing it all away in one hand with just ace high. it meant today i had £200 left in the bank, nothing else. i put this into poker account. build up to £760. put $1000 into $25/$50. struggle to get going, win a coinflip with AK v QQ but that was only to get back to $1000 as i had dropped a bit when i raised pre and made a continuation bet, only to be raised. i folded for a long time then, and dropped to $700ish, manage to double through though with AA v AJs all in pre. upto $1400. card dead then. raised with KJo on the button, sb made it $1300, i had to fold. then raise with 86s next hand, both blinds call. flop KK8. check check, i bet $400 into $445. sb folds. bb calls. i only have $600 left. turn J he checks, i check. river Q, he checks, i check, he shows K7 for trips on the flop. i go through the blinds a few times and am down to $350 i think. then all in pre A10o v K9 for $650ish pot. 9 on the flop. i'm gone. i have £220 left, which i try to rebuild with. i manage to get £560 and stick it all back into $25/$50 ($1050). fold my first 6/7 hands, then KK, utg +2, utg calls. i make it $250, folded to him, he bets $1000, putting me all in. i call. he shows 22. and alas, the flop brings a 2 and he collects the $2k+ pot. the same guy who beat me a couple of days ago when i raised to £2250 on the bb with KK, and he called £2050 more with AQs and hit his ace.
well i have nothing left in poker account or bank now, but i must be 3 or 4 days away from a very welcome £500 in rakeback. plus the £1k i withdrew last night will take 2/3 days to go through, (which wasn't supposed to go back in- i won't take it all out, and whatever i withdraw from bank i'll put back in after i've used it, that is assuming i don't lose...)

Out of interest, do you know what you are meant to have as a bankroll for any given game and limit?
Had to go and create an account to ask this.
Anyways, keep it up - you'll never get anywhere at this rate, but I guess it's good for a laugh.
Hi Ed,
Your blog is making my head spin - I think you must have had your fear glands surgically removed! Either that or no bills to speak of...
I'm rooting for you to win, and have suffered myself in the likes of KK vs 22 all-in pre-flop. Over time of course it makes sense to be playing such muppets, but short-term it murders the roll.
Good luck and I hope you pull through. Please do me a favour and keep some back for lean times, you can always rebuild from the lower limits!
;-)
Ed,
Are you working? I mean, aside from poker, where do you get income from? Because if all your income comes from poker, I think you're in trouble mate.
Very unlucky for you in a few hands there, but poker being skill AND luck, you need to make sure your bankroll has enough to win when the skill kicks in as well as cover the losses when the luck doesn't come your way.
I know you said you enjoyed winning big pots at these higher stakes, but mate, the swings are too much for your piddly bankroll. If I guess it correctly, you only have £1500 left from rakeback and a recent withdrawal. Don't even try to play above $5/$10 is my advice. That's about 300 big blinds... and believe me, that's so easy to lose in one or two hands going the wrong way.
As it stands, I'm not sure that you have an edge against the average opponents that you play against on a regular basis. Your bankroll is just not sufficient to determine this, and what we have seen so far could easily be part running hot or cold, bad luck/outdraws, part good runs/luck of cards, part out-played by better players, or part poor play from you. How much of which belong to each category is important to work out to assess your standing versus those that you play against.
Even the best player in the world on a bad run can go bust, as can a shit player clean out some pros on any given day, week or even month. Such is variance.
bedsitteragogo, i'm not sure if your having a go at me for having such a poor bankroll or genuinely want to know. incase you do - i'm not really the player to know but bennyboi suggests 2000x bb for nl, and 3000x for omaha. and senh suggested (in a previous comment) a minimum of 1500x if you play one table, 3000x if you play 2 tables, etc. i have no idea about fixed limit, but i know the swings are much bigger.
jumpin, i'm glad someone wants me to win, it's usually just (fair) criticism. whilst overpair v underpair is always hugely frustrating to lose, i appreciate it's going to happen. i wish i could hold some back. i really will try to, if i can keep to my withdrawing system and not lose too much of my bankroll in one day then maybe i will be ok.
senh- poker is all but maybe £1k a year of my income. so i do need it to live off, but if anything needs paying i always make the money (so far) or if i want to buy something not too pricey that has never been problem either. well i don't have the £1500ish yet so i might have to wait, plus i won't put it all in, so £2/£5 may be the top table i can play to begin with.
senh, what is your poker name? if you wouldn't mind saying.
Ed, I'd rather not say here (at least for now). One thing for sure, I've never played you before if that is what you're wondering.
